This program is a unique, intense 6-week paid program for incoming freshwomen with no previous research experience. The program, which begins in June, is designed to give you an intense overview of some of the major biomedical disciplines (biology, physics, chemistry, psychology) as you are introduced to the dynamic world of research by providing unique opportunity to learn basic bench top techniques in some major biomedical disciplines and interaction with scientists and other researchers through the particpation in lectures, hands on activities, and fieldtrips. The culminating event of the summer will be a presentation of a research project that you will develop and complete over the course of the 6-week program.

Eligibility:

Pre-freshmen who have indicated an interest in majoring in biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science, or psychology who have interest in obtaining a Ph.D. in one of the sciences that lead to a career in biomedical research. No previous research experience needed!

Academic Research
Development Program

During the academic year, the RISE Development Program provides opportunities for students to engage in paid research for 10 hours per week in a biomedical research laboratory. Students will be mentored by faculty in labs either at Spelman College or other area institutions. Learn more >>

Over the summer, Research Scholars are paid while engaging in full-time biomedical research while working on an independent project. The 8-week program culminates in a research presentation at the MBRS-RISE Summer Research Symposium.
